Rich Franklin signs new deal with UFC
Rich Franklin, in an interview with MMAJunkie Radio, confirmed that he has signed a new 6 fight deal with the UFC. He also mentioned that depending on the pace at which his career remains active within the deal, this may be the last time he signs a deal in his career as a fighter, with him actively contemplating retirement.
Franklin is set to headline the upcoming UFC 103 in September against Dan Henderson, who is coming off of a spectacular knockout win over Michael Bisping at UFC 100. Franklin was all set to take some time off but did not hesitate to take up the fight when the call came though. This fight rounds up what was an exciting card without any big names to sell as the main event.
“I never really approached the UFC about it but I think I’ve been outspoken about the fact that I thought I won the fight the first time. I think from their end, they were looking for a good matchup since the event was going to go head-to-head with the Floyd Mayweather fight, and the UFC needed a big fight. They needed something, I guess, and they come up with the idea of Henderson” said Franklin.
With at least the signed 6 fight deal under his belt, we are sure to see the champion in the octagon for a year or two at least and the 34 year old fighter has nothing but his 100% to give inside the cage … as always.
